 OF CLIMATE HELL IN EUROPE

My cell phone warned: turn it off, it passed the temperature limit. The train was delayed because the rails got too hot and can create friction that causes sparks that causes the shutdown of electronic systems and everything else. Nuclear power plants are automatically shutting down because reactors that receive water to cool also go through temperatures above the limits. Hospitals are full of people with burns, dehydrated, fainting from heat. Not to mention the danger of skin cancer that is for after summer.

Electrical systems are overloaded, don't forget the blackout in Spain and Portugal weeks ago, when the heat wave had not yet involved Western Europe as it does now. Not even the ice cream machines can handle it. And with the school holidays, tourists are moving, with full roads and cars polluting more and producing more heat. And there is also the fire season in Greece, Spain, Dalmatia.

And here comes the drought in the fields. Agricultural production is low, animals suffering, olive trees producing less and even creating a little-known phenomenon in Greece, Portugal and Spain, of olive theft. The drought with reduced production leads to an increase in agricultural prices that hit the wallets long after the summer holidays in Europe. In fact, this wave also plagues part of the United States and the funny comment that goes around there is that that's why the government there wants to keep Greenland, guaranteeing the ice necessary to keep the climate milder. And leftover ice cream for everyone.

The European energy transition has not prevented the climate change that plagues Europe in an almost infernal scenario, with temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius. When summer storms arrive or a milder September, what will change? Opposition politicians across Europe accuse those in government and vice versa. There are countries that even have a climate transition ministry. So, it seems that they didn't agree on how to do it with São Pedro. And the climate transition, which has at its root the energy transition, is closely linked to geopolitical alliances. The Russian gas that fueled European development and was clean was replaced by coal and other sources. The world's largest polluter, China, today dominates the least polluting technologies, solar, wind, electric cars among others, but continues in its own country maintaining the most polluting sources of the environment. The US continues to invest more in oil and gas and does not even consider the climate problem as a problem.

Europeans, like us in Brazil, have to readjust to live on a warmer, almost unbearable planet, from homes to the way of dressing, transportation and everything else, with increasingly expensive food and more expensive energy price. That is until politicians understand that, from what we are living now in Europe, hell, as for the heat we live, has already arrived.
