OF THE CARE WITH THIEF

Perhaps our biggest concern regarding theft is cell phone theft. With the cell phone you go a lot of data and information. And if anyone is nostalgic for the robbery of banks, jewelry, homes, loads and more and more, none of this has disappeared, you can also watch on Netflix the fun French series about the most famous thief of the last century, Arsène Lupin. And the series has also been updated with new tools from the digital world to facilitate robberies.

While we remember Jean Paul Belmondo stealing jewelry on the French River and the newspapers declaring the theft of the century, another happened: 6.3 billion dollars (almost the total value of parliamentary amendments this year) in cryptocurrency from the world's largest company in this area, Binance, were stolen in seconds. A robbery that experts point out as very complex and sophisticated, but which began in a very simple way. A Binance engineer responded to a job advertisement, made a demonstration of his knowledge on the laptop and the interviewers copied his data and entered the Binance network, as a BBC account. The rest is history, and everything indicates that the thieves are from North Korea.

In the same week, supermarket refrigerators were hacked in ten European countries. The temperature rose to 50 degrees C and the food was all thrown away. Before that, 700 French supermarkets were also hacked. And in Brazil, which receives 1.4 million hacking attempts per second, one of the most vulnerable in the world according to CITR.br, a monitoring center for internet networks, not even the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo escaped. The systems of banks, e-commerce and governments are the most vulnerable.

Where there is internet, where there are sensors, such as washing machines and refrigerators, advanced machines where there is electronics, we are possible victims of hacking. Companies must protect themselves today, also because hackers can steal data and sell to competitors. Gone is the time when they stole telex tapes transmitting data from an offer, an experience of the generation today is silvery.

Investments in cybersecurity in Brazil add up to 100 billion reais for the next few years, but much more from individuals. With the growing digitization and more introduction of artificial intelligence, which represents another type of problem, such as acting regardless of its programming, escaping the controls, we have a full plate to worry about safely. In fact, this concern also passes through the military area, where the expression cyber war and cyber battalions, with AI, robots and drones, gains a new dimension.

The world we live in is cyber. With its benefits and dangers. And cybernetic dangers only come together with others and increase the speed and space of insecurity we live in.
