OF INTELLIGENCE, ARTIFICIAL, HUMAN AND NONE
Without mentioning AI, artificial intelligence, there are no more conversations of the wise in Brazil. Whether business, political or government leaders, that is, anyone who has an opportunity to talk about the future of Brazil, mentions AI. And it is not recommended much to ask about what this means concretely, because with the absence of the iconic Odorico Paraguaçu, we will not receive an answer that clarifies the subject with wisdom and humor.
AI is nothing new in human life because our progress has always occurred with the use of tools that introduced solutions to use artificial intelligence helping man and his intelligence. Here's an example, very popular and even worrying today. After the appearance of the internet, I had the case of teaching doctoral students and at one point a student disputed my information. What do you mean, I just asked if they knew the subject. We didn't know each other, but I'm following your class with a class at MIT. That was 25 years ago. Today students make full texts with AI tools. Information is available with a tap. You don't even need to know how to read or write to use AI on your cell phone, asking for information and receiving appropriate answers.
I did tests with some tools asking you to write me an article for this column. No problem, in perfect Portuguese, with updated data and information and still with a question at the end, if I want it to be the more or less emphatic article on the subject. I've had a case in which my book launch speech in Slovenian was written in Slovenian, I read it, but when I finished and was going to say that it was not me who wrote it, to draw attention to the extent of AI use, the people and the author of the book stood up and clapped enthusiastically.
The use of AI, in addition to requiring huge trillions of investments, is raising numerous ethical, individual and state security issues, of predominance of few companies, a super-concentrated and even abusive power. So there is a role of the state in its development and regulation. As hope is the last to die, it is up to the question of whether AI and its development in the country will be part of the candidates' debate. And if by chance the candidate's answer is not "it's a very intelligent question, thank you, about a complex issue."
The challenge is not only macro, but also individual. As for the already graduated adults we are prepared for new times and what we are doing in education to prepare new generations. You can even say that use of AI is out of your reach today, but if your competitors, whether professionals or companies, or your customers use it, you only have one way: use it too. And for that, you have to recycle, because artificial intelligence is only useful for those who have knowledge, or, in the popular, it is intelligent. To simplify: for stupid question, there is an answer
