VAMOS NOS OUVIR, VAMOS OUVIR....

McKinsey Classics | March 2021 The art and science of listening The art and science of listening For leaders, listening to the insights and opinions of other people—including other top executives—is a critical part of strategic decision making, not only during unprecedented crises like the COVID-19 pandemic but also in ordinary times. But the ability to listen requires deliberate cultivation. Few people need it more than senior executives, who tend to focus on presenting their own opinions as forcefully as possible, rather than on listening to what others have to say. To counteract these tendencies, the author of a classic 2012 McKinsey Quarterly article proposed three principles for better listening: respect other people, keep quiet and let them speak, and open yourself to their ideas by challenging your own assumptions. For more on this fundamental subject, read “The executive’s guide to better listening.” — Roger Draper, editor, New York Learn to listen LinkedIn Twitter Facebook
